On Saturday, Chelsea failed to win for the first time this season, giving Manchester City the chance to close the gap at the top with their clash with Everton.

Russo on track as Arsenal beat Liverpool
Scorers: Russian 20′
Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Liverpool.
Alessia Russo showed her ruthless attacking instincts as she fired a shot from a corner through a crowded penalty area.
Six minutes later, the Gunners won a penalty, but Mariona Caldentey hit the post from the spot.
The victory sees Arsenal join Man Utd just one point behind Manchester City in second place.
Leon’s brace helps Aston Villa beat West Ham
Scorers: Léon 4′ 43′, Dali 83′; Asseyi 21′
Aston Villa managers ended the year with a 2-1 win over West Ham as Canadian international Adriana Leon scored a brace.
The home side were in front when Adriana Leon was allowed to run inside the box unchallenged and then curled a superb effort around goalkeeper Kinga Szemik with the outside of her boot.
If that was a wake-up call for the Hammers, they quickly regrouped and hit back thanks to a header from Viviane Asseyi, her third goal of the WSL campaign.
A lovely through ball from Kenza Dali, and Léon was on the scoresheet again, this time with a simple one-on-one finish with Szemik.
Dali then scored a goal of his own as the match approached the closing stages, carrying the ball halfway and smashing his shot into the back of the net.
The three points give Villa some respite away from the bottom of the table, with the club yet to appoint a new boss to take them into the new year.
Manchester United end the year strong with victory at Palace
Scorers: Clinton 45+5′
Manchester United held on for a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.
Marc Skinner’s side opened the scoring until first-half stoppage time when the in-form Grace Clinton fired a shot past Shae Yáñez from the edge of the box after an intense period of pressure from the Red Devils.
The victory puts United one point behind second-placed Manchester City, with the next round of WSL matches not until mid-January.
Everton claim first ever WSL victory against Man City
Scorers: Hope 31′, Hayashi 39′; Fowler 89′ (PEN)
Struggling Everton secured an incredible 2-1 victory over title challengers Manchester City.
After keeping things tight for the first half hour, Everton shocked Gareth Taylor’s side with a goal that originally came from a corner, with the back line calling for offside to no avail as Lucy Hope powered a header home from an exquisite ball from Sara Holmgaard.
If that wasn’t enough for Man City, the Toffees doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Honoka Hayashi found herself in space on the edge of the box with the ball at her feet and fired a low shot past Khiara Keating .
As the minutes ticked by, the visitors were handed a lifeline when Yui Hasegawa was needlessly brought down by Karoline Olesen, leaving the referee with no choice but to award the spot-kick. The Australian international duly converted the penalty, creating a potentially exciting finish.
But that was not the case for the visitors, and the result leaves Gareth Taylor’s side six points behind Chelsea at the top.
There are huge Champions League clashes coming up midweek for the WSL sides, as Chelsea travel to Real Madrid on Tuesday, while Wednesday sees Arsenal host Bayern Munich and Manchester City face a draw away with Barcelona.
