MALELANE, South Africa (AP) — Shaun Norris of South Africa came from behind to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship by one stroke on Sunday.
Norris was six shots ahead going into the final round but shot a 5-under 67 at Leopard Creek Country Club, giving him a total of 13-under 275. Norris, 42, overcame a double bogey at the par-three seventh to claim his second victory on the European Tour.
The only other European tour title for Norris also came in South Africa, at the Steyn City Championship in 2022.
Today’s leader Marcus Kinhult, who took a two-shot lead heading into the final round, finished tied for second place with John Parry and Ryan van Velzen.
Norris had to wait until Van Velzen made a bogey at the last to savor his victory.
“I’m very happy that it happened this way,” said an emotional Norris. “Last year was very difficult. There were ups and downs and everywhere. But thanks to God, my family, my wife. We kept it together. Winning two weeks ago in Japan (when of the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup) and then winning this week, what a blessing.
This was the second consecutive tournament held in South Africa on the European Tour following last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge.
