American players will receive more money to compete in the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

The PGA of America announced Monday that it would increase the player stipend amount to $500,000, an increase of $300,000 from previous years. In the current version, the boost allows players to have money to donate to a charity of their choice.

The statement said no player requested compensation.

“Golf is a long-established vehicle for good, and it is exciting to imagine the impact that members of the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup team will have for good causes and communities across the country, including “including the many initiatives that support the growth of the game,” the PGA of America said in a statement.

“We are grateful to the many players and captains over the years who have represented our country so passionately and we look forward to a memorable 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.”

Ryder Cup player compensation has been a hot topic this fall, as reports have leaked about salary increases and whether players should be paid at all. Players from Tiger Woods to 2025 U.S. captain Keegan Bradley have weighed in.

American Ryder Cup players have received $200,000 stipends since 1999. Those on the European side are unpaid, with stars like Rory McIlroy saying he would “pay for the privilege” of playing in the event.
