Only one man broke par Saturday in the second round of the Golfweek Tournament of Champions. On an extremely windy day with rain and squalls at PGA National’s Fazio Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the field averaged a 79.2 for the round.
Only Todd Brown, the Super Senior leader from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, had a clean scorecard. Brown built a two-shot lead in his division with his two-birdie performance. This 70 in the second round left him with 3 points for the tournament. He is ahead of Marcus Beck, last year’s Super Senior Player of the Year, and Bryan Rodgers, 5 and 6, respectively.

The Senior Division standings changed significantly Saturday as first-round leader Kevin VandenBerg followed an opening 71 with a round of 80. VandenBerg had three bogeys and three doubles. His only birdie came at the par-5 17th.
VandenBerg, clear favorite to repeat as senior player of the year, is now part of a tie for fifth place at 7 over. Gregory Seelinger of Boca Raton, Florida, now leads the division by 2 points. Seelinger had an even par 72 on Saturday.
Todd Doss of Mandeville, La., is two shots behind at 4 over.
Although William Boockford of Tequesta, Fla., leads the Legends division by three shots, the most intriguing story might be unfolding just below him in the rankings. Don Donatoni of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Bev Hargraves of Little Rock, Arkansas, are second and third, respectively, in this ranking. Their results on Sunday could impact the Legends Player of the Year race, which Hargraves currently leads. Donatoni is his closest pursuer.
Frank Polizzi of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, still leads the 4-man Super Legends division with Jack Marin of Durham, North Carolina now trailing behind.
