We asked for your thoughts on Rangers’ defeat to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup.
Here’s what some of you said:
Exit: Rangers played extremely well and were tactically sound. Nicolas Raskin kept Callum McGregor in check and Celtic’s play suffered as a result. The players gave everything throughout the match and their commitment could not be questioned. Penalties are a lottery and any player could have missed one, unfortunately it was a Rangers player. They must continue to play as a team.
Stéphane: Gutted! We didn’t deserve it, but once again Celtic took the upper hand, who knows if Philippe Clément will one day beat Celtic!
Ronnie: We gave 100% and should have won the match. The four against one was crucial, not scoring at that point ultimately cost us the final. The team has improved greatly over the last four weeks and we have shown we can compete with Celtic. We need to pull ourselves together, keep winning and then beat them in the New Year’s derby. It’s a heavy defeat in a fantastic final.
Anonymous : Finally a great performance. Maybe now these supporters will stop harping on about getting rid of Clement, appreciate the job the manager is doing on an extremely limited budget and stop this nonsense about Derek McInnes coming in to replace Clement.
Brian: Firstly I have to say what a cup final, two teams all set to win the cup. A great advert for Scottish football, but I have to say what a way to win or lose a cup final. I would like to see the golden goal rule come into effect, I think it would be a better way to have a winner.
Fraser: A glimmer of hope for the New Year’s match, it was a painful way to lose with a poor penalty but Philippe Clement now has something to fall back on, we can only hope he gets the support of the board of directors. Certainly our best Old Firm performance in over a year.
Tommy: A draw was a fair result, both teams had good times, so based on this game and last season’s cup final you would expect Rangers to beat Celtic at Ibrox and Celtic win their home games, the gap between the teams is not the case. Such a big but poor start to the season means the league is over, but in the long run we are on the right track.
Rock : Very proud of the performances achieved by many players in the Rangers team. However, even though he saved us before, I think the reason we lost that cup final was down to Jack Butland. Dropping to the ground is not an ideal tactic for avoiding penalties. I can see now that he only had nine caps for England.
